Don and Brittany were married on March 18th with a ceremony and reception at St. Lawrence Gap in Barbados.
Brittany is a wedding coordinator for the Burlington Country Club in Burlington, VT, and it showed in all the work she poured into the details of this weekend well in advance. She took a scouting trip down to Barbados to scour the area for venues and locations, and it clearly paid off. She had everything planned, from the ceremony down to the welcome bags for all the guests—filled with destination wedding essentials like sunscreen, lip balm, sunglasses, and a hairband “to have and to hold your hair back.” Her planning and expertise went into every moment so that the guests enjoyed themselves as well as the couple—so it was that much more satisfying to see her finally get to let loose and enjoy herself at the wedding and the party now that it had all fallen into place!
My husband and second shooter, David, and I spent the entire weekend in Barbados with the intimate wedding party of 38 friends and family, and I will forever be grateful for how welcoming they were and how kind they were to the two of us. They really went out of their way to make us feel included, and it was a true pleasure working hard for them and forming true and lasting friendships over the weekend.
On the day of the wedding, Brittany got ready at the resort spa with her mother, mother-in-law, sister, and sister-in-law while the rest of the guests were spending the day at the beach and the pool. Her mother presented her with two blue buttons and a handkerchief from her grandmother to tie to the bouquet, representing something old, blue, and borrowed. From there, we met up with Don for a first look in the resort gardens and then family pictures before the ceremony. You could see the nerves easing out of Brittany and Don’s shoulders as they spent time with each other and family members before the wedding itself.
Then, it was off to the ceremony on the beach overlooking the turquoise Barbados waters. It was particularly touching watching Brittany walk arm-in-arm with her father down to Don. Brittany had also worked with her sister and her officiant (a friend of theirs) to write the ceremony script itself specifically to reflect the meaning of their relationship.
We danced the rest of the night away on the beach under a beautiful sunset, with a private dinner out on the sand and a custom dance floor for the guests. Brittany and Don had even arranged for a local monkey named “Bruce” to entertain everyone after dinner. The whole thing was a blast!
Don & Brittany, thank you for letting us photograph your destination wedding. We had such a wonderful time forming friendships with you and your amazing family and friends!
