What do you get when you blend old New England charm and architecture with the progressive, funky vibe of a college town?  Welcome to Burlington, Vermont.  Nicknamed the Queen City, Burlington is the largest city in Vermont with a population of approximately 42,000.  Nestled on the west by Lake Champlain with the backdrop of the Adirondacks, it’s hard to imagine a more beautifully quaint city.

While Burlington has the unique distinction of being the smallest “largest city” in the United States, it does not lack when it comes to good cuisine.  In fact, Burlington is a food lover’s paradise.  Known for its local farm-to-table approach, Burlington has become a destination for chefs and foodies alike.  A visit to the Burlington Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning is a culinary dream.  Located in historic City Hall Park, the market is home to over 90 unique vendors.  After getting your produce from one of the local farmers, be certain to grab a Rookie’s Root Beer and a donut from Donut Dilemma.

If you happen to miss the Farmers’ Market, do not fret. Amazing farm-fresh food can be found around every corner in Burlington.  A local favorite is the Farmhouse Tap & Grill. This farm-to-table gastropub, located on Bank Street, is brimming with local food and original brews.  Another great choice for dinner is Hen of the Wood.  This rustic, yet chic, restaurant is the counterpart to the original restaurant located in Waterbury.  While Hen of the Wood focuses on local, they do so with a twist of sophistication.  If neither of these options suits your fancy, just take a walk down Church Street, Burlington’s open air pedestrian shopping and dining mall, to find numerous culinary treasures.  In fact, a stroll down Church Street Marketplace is a must for any visitor to Burlington.  Stop for an ice cream cone at the legendary Ben & Jerry’s, watch the fudge making and grab a piece of chocolate at Lake Champlain Chocolates, or grab a bench and enjoy the live musicians scattered throughout the street.

Burlington is a wonderful location for a destination wedding.  With plenty of lodging options for guests, there is something for everyone.  The newest addition to the hotel scene is the independent boutique Hotel Vermont.  Within walking distance to Lake Champlain and Church Street, Hotel Vermont is as hip as it is authentic to Vermont’s natural beauty.  Tour Burlington on two wheels by taking advantage of the bike rentals available in the lobby.  Other lodging options close by include Courtyard Marriott and the Hilton, both offering wonderful views of Lake Champlain.

Wedding Venues in Burlington Vermont

There are various wedding venues in Burlington.  One such favorite is ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center.  This lake aquarium and science center founded in 2003 sits almost directly on Lake Champlain.  With spectacular views of the Lake and the Adirondacks, this green location is certain to impress guests.  The only way one would get closer to Lake Champlain would to be on an actual boat.  This is entirely an option if you plan your wedding on the Spirit of Ethan Allen.  Guests are treated to unparalleled views of Vermont and New York from the water of Lake Champlain.

If views are important to you, but Lake Champlain is not a must,Vermont National Country Club offers gorgeous views from their beautiful veranda.  Burlington Country Club also offers a beautiful setting over 150 acres.  Less well-known, but just as special wedding sites include Burlington City Arts and the Champlain Room & Terrace at Champlain College.

Burlington is a premier destination wedding site.  Housing Vermont’s only major airport, Burlington International Airport (BTV), guests can easily access the Burlington area directly.  Alternatively, guests can travel through Montreal, which is only an hour away.  The buildings at the University of Vermont and Champlain College offer rich history to welcome guests driving towards the downtown area.  With such spectacular views, amazing local food, and unique culture, it’s no wonder that the Burlington area hosts over 2,200 weddings a year.
