Middlebury Wedding Photographer
As it is one of the preeminent cultural, educational, and artistic hubs in Vermont, I am very excited to be offering my wedding photography services in Middlebury. As a Burlington-based Wedding Photographer and native Vermonter, Middlebury is one of those places that repeatedly charms and amazes me. Nestled as it is between the foothills of the Green Mountains and Champlain Valley the area offers stunning landscapes and opportunities for hiking, biking, and practically every type of outdoor adventure you can think of. It is also home to the prestigious Middlebury College, the Henry Sheldon Museum of Vermont, Mahaney Center for the Arts, and the Emma Willard Memorial. Many notable individuals have lived, worked, and thrived in Middlebury, such as Julia Alvarez (author), John Deere (inventor/manufacturer), Ray Fisher (baseball player), and Robert Frost (poet) to name a few. Middlebury was also featured in Tina Fey’s hit television show, 30 Rock, as well as the films: American Graffiti and Me, Myself, and Irene. Along with its genius and aesthetic appeal, Middlebury offers some beautiful inns, such as the Middlebury Inn, Swift House Inn, and Inn on the Green. If my husband and I are in the area we often will treat ourselves to a tasting at Lincoln Peak Vineyard, Appalachian Gap Distillery, Woodchuck Hard Cider, or Otter Creek Brewing. If our girls our with us they love to go to the UVM Morgan Horse Farm. And if I find myself alone in the area (and not working) I will head over to Waterfalls Day Spa for some much needed pampering! No matter how the day was spent, whenever I am in Middlebury I look forward to indulging in the many culinary delights. Some of my favorite eateries include Two Brothers Tavern, Storm Café, Otter Creek Bakery, American Flatbread, Sabai Sabai, The Lobby, and Carol’s Hungry Mind Café. The community of artisans, word-smiths, philosophers, and creators in Middlebury continuously inspires me as a photographer. If you find yourself in the Middlebury area seeking photography services please feel free to peruse my website and reach out!
It would be difficult to find a more quintessential Vermont town than Middlebury.
A short 40 minute drive from Burlington, due south on Route 7, lies this picturesque town. As the uneventful drive leaves you wondering if there is truly anything exciting to come, you drive over the crest of a hill and on the horizon in the distance, nestled between the rolling green hills, is this quaint town accented by the view of a steeple. Cushioned alongside the Otter Creak, the largest town in Addison County, Middlebury is home to approximately 8,500 people.
“We love the things we love for what they are”- Robert Frost
Middlebury College is best known for the liberal arts college that shares the same name. Founded in 1800, Middlebury boasts some of the most architecturally beautiful buildings in Vermont. This would be one of the reasons that I LOVE to do photo shoots at Middlebury. Perhaps the most well-known building on the campus is Mead Chapel. Built in 1916, the chapel sits on the highest point of Middlebury Campus. Many beautiful wedding ceremonies have occurred at Mead Chapel over the years, although the chapel is only able to be reserved by Middlebury graduates, faculty and staff, and their children.
The Middlebury Inn - A great wedding location
In the spirit of the small-town feel, Middlebury boasts many beautiful local Inns that are rich in history, the most historic of which is the Middlebury Inn. Recognized as one of the 5 oldest hotels in America, the Middlebury Inn was built in 1825 and has been continuously operating for over 180 years. Middlebury Inn overlooks this quaint village and allows the luxury of walking from the hotel to explore the town.
The Inn on the Green
Also within walking distance to town is the Inn on the Green. Built in 1803, it is the smallest of the quaint Inns, accommodating guests in 11 onsite rooms and suites.
Swift House Inn
Also of historic measure is the Swift House Inn. The original building which houses the Swift House was built in the early 1800s, and has been beautifully restored and updated. The Swift House is a favorite when it comes to weddings and the onsite restaurant, Jessica’s, can not be missed!
Nothing says Vermont like the Bob Newhart Show. Hollywood thought that the Waybury Inn, located at the border of Middlebury at the base of the Green Mountain National Forest, was a perfect depiction of quintessential Vermont and thus based the Newhart show on the Inn. The Waybury Inn is a favorite for locals and travelers alike, and also serves as a wonderful venue for weddings and other events.
Robert Frost Farm
One would be remiss not to mention the famed poet, Robert Frost, when speaking of Middlebury. Not far from Middlebury, located in the town of Ripton in the Bread Loaf Mountains, lies the Robert Frost Farm. It is here that Frost wrote and lived during the summer and fall months. Visitors can walk the land and view the Farmhouse and cabin, which surely provided much inspiration to Frost in the mid 1900s.
Otter Creek Brewing Company
If throwing a few beverages back is attractive to you, Middlebury does not disappoint. Vermont has more breweries per capita than any other state and Otter Creek Brewing Company has been brewing since well before the Vermont Beer Industry took off. As famous as Otter Creek Brewing is Woodchuck Hard Cider, who put their permanent roots in Middlebury in 2000.
Drop Inn Brewing Company
A newer venture in Middlebury, established in 2012, is the Drop Inn Brewing Company. At this kegging only brewery, guests can taste test or bring a growler home. If one does not have a taste for beer, perhaps a stop at the Lincoln Peak Vineyard or the Appalachian Gap Distillery would be of interest.
