Name a more iconic duo than Vermont and foliage. I'll wait.
Summer is wedding season, but fall is portrait season here in Vermont. Every couple wants to get engagement or wedding photos that feature Vermont foliage like this, but it's hard to predict in advance what the best weekends will be for foliage. The weather channel will attempt to predict it, the Vermont natives will attempt to determine it in advance, and of course the leaf peepers will make their most educated guess. It's often to no avail. When I did this engagement shoot with Bry and Nick some of the only noticeable foliage at Shelburne Farms was on these trees. We didn't let this stop us from getting some great portraits and heavily featuring the foliage as a background. Like all great photography, it's about angles.
Shelburne Farms is my favorite place to take engagement photos because there is so much variety in the different backgrounds, which lets us vary the poses and emotions. A lengthy photoshoot can feel tedious or repetitive to some couples if they aren't used to getting their pictures taken, but something as simple as varying the location of the photos (by which I mean let's walk two minutes in this direction, not let's get in the car and drive 20 minutes) can help to liven things back up.
