When it came time for Kathryn to decide where she wanted to be married, it was not much of a decision. The location had been part of her life since she was born. In fact, it was Kathryn’s grandparents who were responsible for the development of Killington Mountain in Killington, Vermont. Kathryn was getting married there and she was going to get married at the top of the mountain!
Through the tremendous support of Killington and the detailed planning of Nancy Jeffries Dwyer (NJOY Events), the wedding was a fairytale from beginning to end. Getting ready in her grandmother’s house was only natural, as this is where it all began. With Killington Mountain in the background, the couple did their first look on her porch. This was the perfect start to the day. From there, a Bentley took Kathryn and her father to the Killington gondola, where they rode to the top of the mountain. As a former US Ski Team member, I have been in gondolas throughout the world, but it is rare to get to ride up with a bride and her father before her wedding. When we got to the top, we were met by nearly 200 of the couple’s friends and family who gathered prior in this stunning location.
Kathryn’s grandmother Mary married the couple. It was absolutely stunning and made for some truly unique Vermont wedding photography. We escaped the rain with moments to spare and jumped back on the gondola for a fairytale reception at the Killington Grand Hotel. With amazing flowers from (link?) and perfect planning from Nancy, the couple danced the night away.
It was fun to see Steven’s face when the surprise Green Bay Packers cake was presented to the couple. Steven, being a huge Packers fan, was psyched. I love those little surprises. The couple certainly amazed their guests as the night ended with a surprise firework show at midnight.
Thank you Kathryn and Steven for planning such a perfect day. David, Jenna and I loved the thought that you put into this day and your Vermont wedding photos reflected your hard work. It was so fun photographing a Vermont wedding on a ski mountain, especially one that means so much to this couple.
Unique Detail to Consider: The couple brought along a few wooden skis for their guests to sign. This was the perfect memento for their mountain wedding. I am sure these skis will find a wonderful place in this couple’s ski home in the future.
Favorite Photography Moment: From the gondola to the top of Killington, this was incredible. I love being on a mountain and it was so fun to travel over the location where the ladies’ World Cup skiers will rip down this coming winter. We even saw a bear on the way up the gondola!
