Captioning Your Engagement Announcement

Are you hesitant about posting your engagement on social media because you can't think of a better caption than "I said yes!" or "They said yes!"? Do you want to be original in your post but at the same time, you don't want to come off as trying too hard to be original? Do you tend toward casual captions for your Instagram posts so that you don't seem braggy or show-offish but you don't want to use the cliche "so this happened"?

Here's what I say: When it comes to announcing your engagement, be honest about how you feel. No one is annoyed by an authentically joyful post when they scroll through Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook. If your goal is to announce your engagement to extended family and friends that you don't talk to on a daily basis, these people will be thrilled to hear about your engagement in any form.

My favorite engagement announcements are those where people say how they really feel and express genuine enthusiasm about the big event. This is no time to act like you don't care about getting engaged or suggest that you're less than psyched to spend forever with the love of your life. If you need suggestions on great engagement announcements, look at the posts of your friends who have gotten engaged, especially those engagements that you were really thrilled about. You can also take notes from great celebrity engagement announcements like Julianne Hough, who didn't bother to hide her excitement one bit, or Debby Ryan, who did a very cute spin on the overdone "I said yes" post.

If your partner's love language is words of affirmation, writing an Instagram caption that affirms your love for them when you announce your engagement will mean a lot to them. Be real. Be you. Congratulations on your engagement. Now go tell the world!
