What is a senior photo session?

The world of SC high school senior photography has changed a lot in recent years! It is a privilege to capture this precious and transitional time of life. It is a time to remember. I enjoy documenting unique personalities, capturing genuine smiles, and exploring new locations around the Charleston area. For High School Seniors, I offer relaxed, laid-back sessions that aim to tell a story about who you are now in this very important time in your life!

This photo session is a chance for you to capture memories of this year - memories that will last a lifetime.

Choosing the right photographer is important. You want someone who will help you feel comfortable in front of the camera and who can capture your personality. Look for someone who has experience photographing seniors and who knows how to create beautiful, timeless images.

Your senior photo session should be fun and relaxed - after all, it's all about celebrating this special time in your life! Work with your photographer to choose a location and outfits that represent you and your personality. Don't be afraid to express yourself!

When should senior pics be taken?

Your senior year of High School in South Carolina is full of deadlines and tough decisions. It should also be full of FUN! Call me to book your Senior Photo session in the spring of your junior year or early in the summer before your senior year. We will put a date on the schedule that works best for you. The short answer?! The sooner the better!

The longer you wait, the more likely it is that your classmates will have all booked their sessions and you'll be left with fewer options.

The best time for senior portraits will vary depending on the individual. Keep in mind is what season you want your photos taken in. Many people choose to have their portraits taken in the fall, as the leaves are changing color. If you want to have your photos taken in the summer, you will want to book well in advance as outdoor locations will be in high demand.

No matter when you choose to have your session, be sure to work with your photographer to plan ahead and get the most out of your senior portrait experience!

What should you wear for your Senior photos?

  1. Choose outfits that represent who you are as a person. Don't be afraid to express yourself!
  2. Think about the season in which you want your photos taken. If you want them taken in the fall, choose clothes that reflect the autumn colors.
  3. Layers are always a good option, as they allow you to adjust your look depending on the weather.
  4. Be sure to coordinate your outfits with your photographer so that you can create a cohesive look.

Why I love Charleston Senior Photography

I want to share with you a bit of myself in order to help you gain a full appreciation for my vision and philosophy behind senior photography, My busy family of five (My husband David and three daughters) has spent the last 10 years living in some of the most picturesque places in the world. I’ve photographed on the breathtaking beaches of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, captured love on the wild mountainsides of Lake Tahoe, and the romantic vineyards of Napa Valley. Most recently we lived in Vermont.

My family and I have embraced and been welcome into other cultures and places. I would not change this journey for anything in the world.

During the pandemic, we were locked down and started to crave to go on an adventure!

So, we moved to Mount Pleasant, SC!

I share this journey because it truly impacts my vision for what kinds of photography services I would like to provide for my clients, and in particular, senior portraits. I imagine that most of us raise our children in South Carolina for similar reasons. While embracing the splendor of this gorgeous state, we can allow our children’s natural beauty to develop and grow. We can throw on our Birkenstocks and put our hair in a ponytail, and still know that our natural beauty shines through. While we can certainly get dressed up for a night out, we are aware that South Carolina accepts us for exactly who we are. We are authentic.

Senior portraits have long been a rite of passage for graduating students. Sometimes, the images often do not reflect the actual essence of who we are. It has always struck me as unfortunate when I see a senior portrait that is stiffly posed and heavily photoshopped, especially in South Carolina where our desire is natural beauty. It is my goal as a portrait photographer is to capture the authentic essence of your child.

With the help of our natural landscape, I use the tools provided by mother-nature to assist us in our session. South Carolina is so graciously helpful in this way! The light from the setting sun, the gorgeous backdrop of the ocean, the cool architecture of historic downtown Charleston. My goal is to have you and your parents look at the pictures for years to come and feel as though the depth and essence of your beautiful child were indeed captured.

For this to happen, we work in a partnership.

The images that I capture are a reflection of you and your child’s desire for our session. While I am there to offer technical and artistic guidance based on my experience, you are truly the guiding vessel.

Having three children of my own, I understand what it takes to make this a fun and comfortable session. I can relate to both the parent and seniors perspective, and accordingly, can help to create the images you will love and be proud to share.

We chose to live in South Carolina for a significant purpose, and I hope that my portrait can capture it.
