Destination Wedding Photography | Beaulieu Gardens, Rutherford, CA

Hilary and Erich were married on September 25th, with a ceremony and reception at the Beaulieu Gardens in Rutherford, CA.

I met Hilary in 2012 when I was living in Cabo, San Lucas. She was on a girls’ weekend, and I ended up photographing her group. Then, later in the weekend, I took her headshots, since she was about to be featured on the “Secret Millionaire” television show! We hit it off, and she later told me that if she ever got married again, I would photograph her wedding. Three years later, she contacted me to let me know the happy news—she was getting married! Luckily, we had moved to Northern California, so I was only 100 miles away from Napa Valley.

My second shooter, Anna Gomes, flew up to Napa for the weekend to join me. She is my BFF from Cabo, and I was so grateful that she made the trip.

It was clear from the outset that all of their children were very important to them. Erich’s kids, Will and Henry; as well as Hilary’s kids, Dani, Rosie, and Derek; were huge parts of the ceremony. Rose even sang!

The thing that struck me most about this wedding was Hilary and Erich’s mutual love of food and wine. They specifically wanted to get married in Napa Valley because of the incredible food and wine there, which they made their first priority—they even had an amazing gift basket filled with items from the Napa region!

They had three events planned for each night of the wedding weekend. The rehearsal dinner was at a vineyard, the wedding was also at a vineyard, and the final party was at a popular restaurant in Napa.

That’s what makes destination weddings so important, especially for true foodies. Location is really important to highlight food, which is why Hilary and Erich decided to hold their wedding in Napa Valley. The same is true of Vermont destination weddings. The Stowe/Waterbury area has so many great craft breweries, including The Alchemist and Trapps Family Lodge Brewery—which is a great option for foodies. Not to mention the fact that Vermont is known for its farms and fantastic dairy products—from Cabot to Ben & Jerry’s to little bread and butter farms.

Thank you, Erich & Hilary, for including me in your amazing wedding! You two are incredible—successful, stylish, and above all, you have the biggest hearts. I truly cherish my friendship with you!
