Gabe and Eirika were married on February 11th, with a ceremony and reception at the Lake Placid Lodge.
Before the wedding, I was able to meet up with Gabe and Eirika for an amazing engagement shoot, where I learned a little about their love story. As they love to tell people, they simply shouldn’t have met. They connected through a dating app that introduced people with mutual Facebook friends—but they didn’t have any mutual friends!
They fell in love and started traveling together, and Gabe proposed while they were in Paris. They decided to take a quick break from their world touring to get married at the Lake Placid Lodge because they love the winter—and because they thought the cozy, intimate feeling of the understatedly elegant lodge would be exactly what they wanted for the day!
When I arrived with my second shooter, David Bennett (who is also my husband and photo caddy), Eirika was already having a lovely time in hair and makeup! It really makes a difference when you start out the day with that kind of energy, and that’s very much due to Jennifer and Chris from True Grace Makeup. Jennifer has an awesome, contagious energy, and it was a great hand-off from her team to mine!
David and I had decided to shoot the details and getting ready pictures in Eirika and Gabe’s wedding cabin, and while we had to shuttle her dress to the new room, it was so worth it. The cabin was amazing, rustic, and adorable, and it made the pictures that much more perfect. It was a bit confusing, though, since Gabe’s clothes were in the room as well, which led to a funny moment where Eirika was hiding behind a curtain while Gabe got ready, said hello to his mom, and then snuck out to be with his boys.
Once they were both ready, we staged a romantic first look out in the cold with a few stunning snow flurries, and Gabe’s reaction after Eirika snuck up on him was simply priceless. We captured some portraits in the snow after that—which was the perfect way to go into the ceremony and reception with a fun, relaxed attitude! I loved those images out in the snow, especially since Eirika looked so classic and beautiful. The detail shots in the snow turned out amazing as well—the ring photo was gorgeous!
I also loved the images of Eirika outside in the snow during the reception. She was looking into her reception and twirling like a ballerina, and it was so fun to just take that moment and play outside together. I love being able to break away and do something creative! I ended up making a GIF with the photos we took, which I sent to her the next day.
Gabe & Eirika, thank you for trusting me to photograph this special celebration. I loved getting to know you these last few months as we planned and plotted and then executed such an amazing day! My only complaint is that it’s over—maybe we can do it again next year! ;)
