Lara and Matthew were married on August 6th, with a ceremony and reception at the Topnotch Resort in Stowe, Vermont.
On the day of the wedding, my second shooters, David Bennett and Homer Horowitz, and I headed up to the top of Mount Mansfield for the first look. We drove up from the Resort in two separate cars to keep them from seeing each other, with Matthew heading up the gondola first while I followed with Lara. That was my favorite moment of the day, as I watched Lara’s anticipation building and building. The views were spectacular, and Lara was totally cool and calm—right up until we hit the top of the gondola ride. As she stepped out of the gondola car, the moment hit her, and she turned to me with a tear in her eye. “Can I have a hug?” she asked. So sweet! Of course, I was happy to oblige.
We met up with Matthew at the private location where we had staged him at the top of the gondola at Stowe Mountain Resort. They shared a touching first look at the top of Vermont, and it was truly worth the effort of the journey to get there! I used to be a ski racer who grew up skiing at Stowe Mountain Resort, and I could never have imagined that I would one day be photographing a first look at the top of Mount Mansfield!
From there, we headed back down to Topnotch for the ceremony in the meadow before a beautiful reception under a large tent.
I loved the details of this day, especially the ones that show their love of photography. Matthew loves to work with wood and electronics, and he hand-made a custom photo booth. He’d built every piece of it himself and presented it to Lara as he proposed to her so that the entire event was captured on camera. It was truly a unique piece at the wedding, and long with the vintage cameras spread around the tables at the reception, their love of the visual arts was obvious!
Lara & Matthew, thank you for taking me on this journey with you both. It was truly a memorable day, and I loved working with you both!
